Izinyanga zonyaka ngesiZulu

  • UMasingana (January) - omama sebeqala ukusinga izigabe ngaphansi kwamagwagwa ezintanga esizigubhazela ngenxa yezinkinga zasehlobo.
  • UNhlolanja (Febrauary) - ngalesi sikhathi sonyaka izinja ziyalandelana ezesilisa zikhwelana nezesifazane.
  • UNdasa (March) - izingane zidansizela ngesisu nakhu phela ukudla kwasehlobo sekuyadliwa njengombila.
  • UMbasa (April) kusuke sekuqala ukuba makhaza abadala baqala ukubasa umlilo lapho seliyozilahla konina.
  • UNhlaba (May) sekuqala ukuhlwa amakhaza manje ubusika sebuyangena.
  • UNhlangulana (June) izihlahla seziqala ukuhlangula amaqabunga azo, ubusika sebungene.
  • UNtulikazi (July) izwe seligcwala izintuli nakho phela sewishiza umoya wasebusika.
  • UNcwaba (August) izwe lisuka selincwaba selembatha uhlaza ebukade buphundlwa ubusika izulu selizokuna kutshalwe.
  • UMandulo (September) usuke unyaka wethwese selina sebeqalile abantu ukwandulelisa.
  • UMfumfu (October) izihlahla ezithelayo nezitshalwa emasimini seziyamfumfusa.
  • Ulwezi (November) inyanga okukhala ngayo kahkulu amaxoxa nezilwane ezincane okuthiwa ulwezi.
  • UZibandlela (December) izindlela seziqala ukuvaleka ngoba sekuhluma izikhotha nakhu phela seliyana izulu.

A year is divided into four seasons

  • Spring
  • Summer
  • Winter
  • Autumn


  • January - women usually go to their gardens looking for good remaining plants as most of it is not good by that time due to bad weather.
  • February - dogs chase each other for sexual practice.
  • March - kids with some big bellies as they had lot of food by that time.
  • April - weather starts to become colder, elders usualy sit around the fire when the sun sets.
  • May - sun sets earlier.
  • June - trees and plants start to lose their leaves.
  • July - more dust due to windy winter.
  • August - trees and plants, produce new leaves and fruit& fresh product.
  • September - more rain, which boost plants.
  • October - plants grow progressively.
  • November - noise from frogs and insects welcoming summer " voice of mother nature".
  • December - informal paths becomes less due to weeds.
