Games for Boys
There are a number of games played by boys on their own. Most of these are initiated by the boys themselves. Boys play games which teach them skills and expertise particularly of things done by grown men. In this way they equip themselves for their future adult life.
Here are some of the boys’ games; dart throwing, stick-fighting, making clay cattle, setting bulls to fight each other, hunting game, setting traps for birds, laying a snare, setting fights between boys, traditional dancing, swimming in a pool, riding donkeys, herding stock, diving, playing crocodile, setting a noose trap, setting a fall trap, to plunder goods, eating cow’s lung, hunting for field-rats, felling sticks, carving ladles (spoons), herons or long-legged marsh-cranes, topmost branch, music, reed-pipe, reed-whistle, ‘dloko’ stick, horse riding, riding children as horses.
